Book Review of Cynthia Koelker's "The Legacy of Job's Wife"

What is the book about?

What do we do when God has given us such a bountiful and incredible life? How do we react when that life or part of it is suddenly gone? We can guess what our reaction would be, but unless it happens to us then we really would not know right?

The Legacy of Job's Wife is a story of love and perseverance through great happiness and devastating trials. Cynthia Koelker takes the reader on a life journey during the times of the biblical story about Job through the eyes of his wife Ix'ises.

My take on the book.

"The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away." This statement is the theme of The Legacy of Job's Wife. I love the way the author brought Ix'ises story to life.

From the story in the Bible about Job we only really know two things about his wife. One was that his wife existed. The second is that she was angry and cursed God.

This book is a depiction of how Ix'ises life from birth. It is also about how she must have been feeling when she cursed God. It helps us understand how in her mind it was justifiable at the time. The points of view from both sides of Faith are shown to be relatable in many areas of modern-day life.

The struggles that go along with child loss and infertility being described on such a personal level touched my heart deeply and sent me through a range of emotions as Ix'ises felt them. Some so many women have gone through the loss of one child and never get over it.

It was a very profound feeling when reading about what happened to a woman losing ten children. Reading this book puts a whole new spin on the story of Job that could change the perspective of many, both Christian, and not.

There were a few grammatical errors, and the chapter lengths could have been a bit more consistent. Because of this, I give the book a 3 out of 4-star rating. Having said that, I absolutely loved it! I will be adding it to my personal collection to enjoy it again. Thank you Cynthia Koelker for writing it.

In Conclusion

Whether looking for inspiration to help you through a trial in your life or just on the hunt for a great Christian novel, then The Legacy of Job's Wife is just the pick for you. I would recommend this book to women from 18 and up. I would also recommend that this book be read by bible study groups to gain a better understanding of more than one point of view in the story of Job.
